For a long time the Atlanta Falcons seemed to go out of their way to avoid bringing in players from Georgia. Perhaps they didn't want to draw any more attention to a local team that they compete with for eyeballs.

Whatever the case, it now appears that the organization has changed course and embraced the college powerhouse in their own backyard. Several players on the roster have been drafted from Georgia, including second-year edge rusher Jalon Walker - who just suffered a devastating season-ending ACL tear at training camp.

While it's a big blow to Walker and to Jeff Ulbrich's defense, the good news is that he's still just 22 years old and has plenty of time to bounce back from the injury.

Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart believes he will, in any case. Here's what he said about Walker's ACL tear after speaking with him yesterday.

Kirby Smart said he spoke with #Falcons Jalon Walker yesterday:

Walker is coming off a promising rookie season, having posted 5.5 sacks and nine quarterback hits in 15 games, with nine starts to his credit.

That's pretty close to the numbers he posted over his last two seasons under Smart at Georgia, where he averaged 5.75 sacks and eight TFL from 2023-2024.

While Walker does have time and ability to come back, his injury is a non-negotiable atom bomb to Atlanta's edge rotation, which will also likely see James Pearce face a lengthy suspension from the league office this year.
