Rajasthan Royals became the inaugural champions of the Indian Premier League under the captaincy of Shane Warne.
They won 11 of their 14 league matches and then demolished Delhi Daredevils by 105 runs in their semi-final. In the final, they beat Chennai Super Kings by three wickets to lift the first-ever IPL trophy. Yusuf Pathan won the Player of the Match award, and Shane Watson was named Player of the Tournament.
After their fairy-tale title, the Royals could not replicate that magic for a very long time. In 2013, back in the playoffs, after four years away, RR beat SRH in the Eliminator but then fell to Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2.
After a long hiatus, RR's finest campaign came in 2022. They finished second in the league stage under Sanju Samson and beat RCB comfortably in Qualifier 2 after losing Qualifier 1 to Gujarat Titans.
In the final, however, they were bowled out for just 130, and GT chased it down with seven wickets to spare.
In 2024, they once again returned to the playoffs after finishing third in the standings. They beat RCB by four wickets in the Eliminator but lost to SRH by 36 runs in Qualifier 2.
