RR's full IPL playoff history listed
Rajasthan Royals are one of the most traditional teams in the IPL, having won the title of the first-ever IPL champions in 2008 led by late legendary Australian cricketer, Shane Warne.
Though they have faced stretches of consistent underperformance, RR has never failed to rise up to the occasional challenge. Right from winning the title in 2008 to being runner-ups in 2022 and reaching the playoffs again in IPL 2026, RR has created a unique reputation of performing as an underdog.
In IPL 2026, it was not until their final league-stage match against Mumbai Indians that RR sealed the fourth spot on the points table and confirmed their participation in the playoffs for the seventh time.

2008
Rajasthan Royal surprised the cricketing fraternity by winning the title in their very first season, and at the same time the first edition of IPL, against all expectations.
With excellent captaincy from late Shane Warne, RR finished first and beat Chennai Super Kings by 3 wickets to lift the trophy in the final. Shane Watson, Yusuf Pathan and Sohail Tanvir were among those who played vital parts for RR that season.
Before the final, RR beat Delhi Daredevils by 105 runs in their semi-finals match, since it is a known fact that the current IPL format of playoffs was introduced in the 2011 season.
2013
Having missed the playoffs for several seasons, RR made it back into the tournament in 2013 under the leadership of Rahul Dravid in his final term.
In the league matches, the team secured third place and defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 wickets in Qualifier 1 before facing a 4-wicket loss to MI in Qualifier 2. The best performances from Shane Watson and James Faulkner contributed to the successful season of the club.

RR had managed to make it to the playoffs in 2015 by securing the fourth position on the table under Shane Watson's captaincy.
Unfortunately, however, their season came to an abrupt end after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 71 runs in the Eliminator match. Ajinkya Rahane was the highest run-getter for RR that year.
2018
After spending two years out of action owing to suspension from IPL, RR immediately returned to the playoffs in 2018.
Led by Ajinkya Rahane and inspired by the likes of Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer, RR managed to reach the fourth spot before losing against Kolkata Knight Riders by 25 runs in the Eliminator.

It was RR’s best IPL season in over a decade in 2022.
Led by captain Sanju Samson, RR finished in second position in the points table, while Jos Buttler delivered an exceptional batting performance by accumulating 863 runs.
Although RR won Qualifier 2 against RCB following the Qualifier 1 loss to Gujarat Titans, they were unable to defeat the new entrant, with all matches in the playoffs decided by a 7-wicket margin.
2024
RR were one of the finest sides in the first half of IPL 2024 and booked their place in the playoffs without much trouble, albeit a third-placed finish in the league stage.
They beat RCB by 4 wickets in the Eliminator but fell by 36 runs in Qualifier 2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
