New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh still has a heart for football, and after nearly two decades spent with the Baltimore Ravens, he'll embark on a new journey with much zeal. His termination from the Ravens franchise was merited, but what will critics think if Harbaugh exceeds the Ravens in success in 2026?
Sure, the idea of Harbaugh succeeding with the Giants is a very uncomfortable place for passionate Ravens fans. However, comfort isn't something void from Harbaugh's ever-present aura. The Ravens needed a new start, and so did Harbaugh, who will likely be refreshed by the talents of Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers, quarterback Jaxson Dart, and powerhouse running back Cameron Skattebo. Also, Ravens fans shouldn't forget that Harbaugh took a few quality former Ravens players with him to New York. Tight-end Isaiah Likely, fullback Patrick Ricard, offensive guard Daniel Faalele, and punter Jordan Stout, who operated as a crucial piece helping the Ravens to excel in special teams and field position, will all wear Giants uniforms in 2026.
With 17 games on the NFL schedule, both the Ravens and Giants have their work cut out for them on the quest to conquer their competitive divisions. Yet, if Harbaugh is able to propel the Giants to the top of the NFC East, and the Ravens sputter yet again in the latter months of the season, critics will crawl from their caves to make suggestive remarks.
Ultimately, Harbaugh's departure was best for the Ravens' franchise regardless. The consistent complacency had become a cancer, and Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta understands that there is a higher calling for his team. However, the Giants genuinely believe they have found a gem in their new head coach, and if the Giants win more games than the Ravens in 2026, Harbaugh will be highly acclaimed.
