Two teams in desperate need of a winning streak get together Friday as the Baltimore Orioles host the Detroit Tigers to open a weekend series.
Both are off to disappointing starts and sit at the bottom of their respective divisions. The O's are happy to be back home after dropping five of six at Washington and Tampa Bay during the week, while the Tigers have lost 14 of 16 including a four-game sweep by the Guardians in Detroit.
It's still early, though, and both teams know there's a ton of baseball yet to be played. Baltimore still has faith in its young core of Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman along with Pete Alonso at the top of the lineup, while Detroit is hoping to stay afloat until Tarik Skubal, Gleyber Torres and Javy Baez return from injuries.
Friday's pitching matchup features veterans Chris Bassitt and Jack Flaherty, both also in need of a positive outing.
