It's a bicoastal battle in Baltimore on Friday as the Giants visit the Orioles to begin a weekend series.
The early season schedule hasn't been kind to first-year San Francisco manager Tony Vitello, whose team has had to run a gauntlet of high-caliber opponents and taken its lumps in the process. After facing the Yankees, Padres and Mets to open the season, the Giants started clicking against the Phillies with a pair of shutout wins to tee them up for a nine-game road trip.
The Orioles have had an up-and-down start and are coming home from a road trip that saw them get swept in Pittsburgh, then take all three games from the White Sox in Chicago. While Baltimore awaits Jackson Holliday's season debut after he underwent hand surgery in February, Taylor Ward (1.039 OPS) and Gunnar Henderson (four homers) have carried the load on offense to date.
Shane Baz is scheduled to start for the Orioles on Friday with Landen Roupp slated to get the ball for the Giants.
