When the Boston Celtics elected to trade star forward Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers, they took a massive risk in betting on a combination of analytics, cap knowledge, and team building experience to bet that a more distributed pool of talent would be the best way to win a title in today's NBA.
And on the other side of that deal, the Sixers made a similar if inverse bet that adding a year of supermax salary to the books is worth the squeeze given their financials over the same period. Those two points of view could very well reshape how teams across the league construct contenders, as well as shifting the order of the NBA's Eastern Conference in a major way.
