Hall of Fame Boston Celtics big man alumnus Robert Parish has not been shy when it comes to his opinion on whether the team he won a trio of NBA titles with in the 1980s ought to have moved on from star forward Jaylen Brown. And so it ought to come as little surprise that the Chief is no fan of the move by Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and company now that the deal has been made.
But for Parish, as for many fans, the team Stevens et al. chose to ship Brown off to in the trade, the Philadelphia 76ers, stood out as an especially unpalatable aspect of an already distasteful swap for Parish. "Ouch," said the former Boston big man on a recent SiriusXM Radio appearance after the trade. "First of all, I hated to see Jaylen being moved."
"I understand it may have been about financial reasons for moving him," he added. "I’m sure moving that contract gave the Celtics some more maneuvering room to add other pieces or new pieces."
"(I) understand that," emphasized Parish. "I still do not like it. When I first heard about it, the first thing I thought about was the Dallas Mavericks when they moved Luka (Doncic), just historically a bad move."
"And I felt the same way hearing about Jaylen being moved to the 76ers. Not to mention in the same division, which is a head scratcher for me."
