Texas A&M's appearance at SEC Media Days took place on Wednesday afternoon, while rival Texas, coach Steve Sarkisian, quarterback Arch Manning, defensive end Collin Simmons, and left tackle Trevor Goosby spoke to the local and national media on Thursday as the final team of the week.

Outside of previewing the upcoming season, as the Longhorns will embark on what many consider the toughest schedule in SEC play, Sarkisian revealed that the program's top-ranked commitment in the 2027 recruiting cycle, five-star cornerback John Meredith, will reclassify to the 2026 class, making him eligible to play this season as a freshman.

A long-time favorite to land with Texas A&M, Meredith explained his choice to commit to Texas earlier this month, revealing how close the Aggies came to securing his commitment before Sarkisian and his staff upped the ante during his official visit. Before his commitment, Meredith was deemed ineligible to play his senior season after transferring to North Crowley (Texas), which could have impacted his final decision.

After committing to Texas, it became abundantly clear that Meredith did not want to return to his previous high school, Euless Trinity, for his senior season, feeling a reclassification and early start to his Texas career was the best choice for him and his family.

Now, how does this affect Texas A&M? Meredith is officially out of the running as a potential flip candidate, but fellow five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, who committed to South Carolina earlier this month, is still in the running and is likely the No. 1 flip option for coach Mike Elko heading into the fall.

Days after his commitment to the Gamecocks, Dobson stated that his recruitment was "long from over," providing an opening for Elko and CB coach Bryant Gross-Armiento to heavily pursue the blue-chip defensive back during the 2026 season. Texas A&M football/basketball insider and Texas A&M Aggies Live co-host Kannon Torres provided his own take on the situation.

"This changes the board (and mentality) more than people think. With Meredith out of the 2027 class, A&M has every reason to stay aggressive with Dobson."

How South Carolina's 2026 season transpires will likely affect Dobson's commitment status, placing more pressure on coach Shane Beamer and veteran quarterback LaNorris Sellers to rebound after another disappointing season.
