Texas A&M's ongoing battle to land the No. 1 or No. 2-ranked cornerbacks in the 2027 class continues after the Aggies hosted five-stars John Meredith and Joshua Dobson over the past two weekends for official visits, while the Aggies are currently trending for Dobson. However, while Meredith received a late prediction to land with the Texas Longhorns, coach Mike Elko and new CB coach Bryant Gross-Armiento remain in contention.
Joshua Dobson is still expected to take official visits with Michigan and South Carolina, while Meredith, who is coming off his OV with the Longhorns, will reportedly still consider Texas A&M after his successful OV, and, going off of On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong's recent update, if Meredith takes one more unofficial visit with the Aggies, this could change the trajectory.
On Wednesday, On3's Sam Spiegelman gave Texas a 45% chance to secure Meredith's commitment, while noting that Texas A&M remains the "biggest threat" to shake things up last minute, especially given the blue-chip defensive back's strong relationship with Elko and Gross-Armiento.
Yes, the Longhorns should remain the favorites, but only slightly, especially if Joshua Dobson ends up committing elsewhere, which isn't predicted, but certainly isn't out of the question. Meredith is by far the best man-coverage cornerback in the class, while Dobson can play man or zone at a high level, and both players are perfect fits in Mike Elko's scheme.
