NEW YORK - Spencer Jones has returned to the Bronx, with Aaron Judge officially placed on the 10-day injury list Friday.
Prior to their 7:05 p.m. game against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium, the Yanks recalled Jones, the slugging, lefty-hitting outfielder, and sent Judge to the IL (retroactive to Monday) with a stress fracture to his first right rib.
Ranked as the Yankees' No. 6 prospect (third among position players) by MLB Pipeline, Jones, 25, made his MLB debut with the Yankees on May 8.
In 10 big-league games, the 6-foot-7, 240-pound Jones batted .167 (4-for-24) with zero extra-base hits, two RBI and one stolen base.
Jones might be here until Jasson Dominguez is ready to return. Dominguez (shoulder strain) was to begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday, lasting at least into the early part of next week.
For now, he could get starts at any of the three outfield spots, mostly against right-handed pitching.
Of course, Judge was diagnosed late Thursday night with the rib stress fracture, essentially shutting him down for at least the next four-to-six weeks, at which point he'll undergo further imaging to determine the next steps in his rehab.
In 43 games at Triple-A this year, Jones is batting .269 with a .949 OPS, 13 homers and 48 RBI.
