Weston McKennie knows how to bring some fun to the serious nature of the World Cup.

The USMNT midfielder recently said that fans can expect another exciting hairdo at this summer's tournament.

"I'm definitely going to do something," he said in an appearance on Whistle's "Supporters Section" podcast on Thursday, May 28, noting that he's still brainstorming ideas.

For the 2022 World Cup, McKennie rocked red, white and blue stripes in his hair when he played in all four USMNT matches. But he said after the Stars and Stripes were knocked out in the Round of 16, people thought he was representing another country with the same colors.

"I still haven't figured it out yet what I want to do because the last World Cup, I dyed it and then whenever I came back and it was still dyed, people were like, 'Oh, you're supporting France?'" he said. "I'm like, 'No!' So I've got to create something a little bit more unique to U.S.A. and whatnot. But there'll definitely be something."

With Diego Luna left off the final 26-man roster, perhaps there is extra weight on McKennie to bring the personality to the pitch.

The United States is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup with Canada and Mexico. The national team kicks off their campaign on Friday, June 12 in Group D play against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

There is a record 104 fixtures in this summer's tournament because the field has been expanded to 48 teams. The farthest the USMNT has made it in the World Cup is the semifinals back in 1930. The side infamously didn't quality for the 2018 competition.

McKennie, who has experience in some of the top tiers of international football with the English Premier League and Italy's Serie A, also shared his hopes for what this team can represent for the United States, not just by winning but showing a national identity.

"We have the talent and we have the players, but I think one thing that I do hope that we can also string together is just the basic American mentality," he said. "I think fighting until the end and not stopping until the whistle blows, I think that's something that America is known for over all the years and all the past generations. I think if we can put that mentality mixed together with our talent and our group of guys, I think that's something that will make Americans proud."
