"Country Roads, Take Me Home" to ... Omaha?
Those aren’t John Denver’s exact lyrics, but they might as well be in Morgantown, with the Mountaineers heading to college baseball's most hallowed grounds for the first time in program history.
No. 16 West Virginia finished off its sweep of Cal Poly in the Morgantown Super Regional with a 17-1 win on Saturday, June 6 to punch its ticket to the College World Series. The win sparked an electric postgame scene at Wagener Field at Kendrick Family Ballpark as players and fans locked arms and belted out Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" — Mountaineers tradition.

The Mountaineers used a seven-run second inning to break the game open, and they never looked back. Ben Lumsden and Tyrus Hall went back-to-back with home runs in the inning, with Lumsden hitting a 3-run jack to left field and Hall hitting a solo shot to left center.
West Virginia would add two runs in each of the fourth through sixth innings to build a 16-1 lead going into the seventh inning. Starter Maxx Yehl went five innings and struck out four batters while giving up one run on four hits and a walk.
The Mountaineers took Game 1 of the best-of-three series with a 12-2 win over the Mustangs. Saturday's win for West Virginia marked its 45th of the season, breaking last season's program record for most wins in a single season. The Mountaineers will take a five-game win streak into Omaha.
West Virginia will now open up play at the College World Series on Friday, June 12 against Troy, which won its super regional vs. Little Rock.
