WEST HARTFORD - West Haven boys basketball celebrated the season's biggest victory overall Monday night, knocking off Notre Dame-West Haven.
The clock had all zeroes, but the game wasn't over. After aa airball, West Haven had possession but traveled. Time was put back on the clock, five-tenths of a second to be exact.
This time, the long inbounds went to Arkansas-bound Abdou Toure, but he was unable to connect from underneath the basket. West Haven celebrated again, this time with a 43-42 victory in the CIAC Division I semifinals at the University of Hartford's Chase Family Arena.
It was a stunner for No. 2 seed West Haven which had lost in three previous games against No. 1 ranked Notre Dame. But other than the opening possession of the second half, the Blue Devils led the entire half. West Haven will face top seed Staples in the Division I final this weekend at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The CIAC will release the schedule later this week.
Jordan Sirabionian led West Haven with 16 points while Quincy Dormevil had a game-high 23 points for Notre Dame.
Toure, a top 50 recruit, was held to just 12 points by West Haven, which doubled the future Arkansas Razorback. Toure finished his career with 1,981 points.
Notre Dame was attempting to win its third straight Division I title. West Haven not only ended those hopes, but also snapped the Green Knights' 36-game winning streak against Connecticut competition.
