The start of spring football practice is 6 days away. UW is looking for their biggest fan. And the UW Softball team’s winning streak continues. Those and more for your Wednesday Dots.

- Former NFL assistant Matt Cavanaugh has officially been hired by UW as an offensive assistant coach. He signed a contract on March 20 for $40,000 per month. Dawgman has more details on the contract along with an extensive list of NFL coaches that Cavanaugh has worked with, the last of which was Robert Saleh at the New York Jets.
New Washington senior offensive assistant Matt Cavanaugh signed a one-year deal with an annual rate of $480,000, per a copy of his contract (he was hired late in the cycle so it’s technically about a 10.5-month contract, through January 2027).

- Bill Connelly lists the returning production of each of the 138 FBS teams (that is how many there will be this season, with the addition of North Dakota State and Sacramento State). Thanks, in part, to Demond Williams’ return, UW is at #15-but just 7th in the Big Ten. As a side note-all 4 teams in the Big Ten from the West Coast are in the top 15. In the article Bill mentions how he is handling transfers in the returning production values now that they are a large part of most rosters. He also mentions Washington as one of the teams most likely to improve.
- Andy Staples looks at early win totals for the Big Ten teams. He thinks that the 7.5 for UW is in the “too early to call” category. (I’m sure that there are many Husky fans don’t think that it is too early to call that as being too low.)
- CBS Sports is also reviewing the projected win totals for the teams in the Big Ten and is picking the ‘Over’ for UW. They have UW winning 9 games-they highlight all of the games they are expected to win (and lose) including a win over the defending national champions-Indiana. They have UW’s losses at USC, at Nebraska, and at Oregon.
- The NCAA has increased the limit on the number of coaches that can be out for off-campus recruiting during the spring evaluation period (April 15 to May 23). FBS teams can now have 16 coaches designated for off-campus recruiting, although only 10 can be out at any one time. Lars Hanson has a look at how UW might capitalize on the new rule.
