WEBB CITY, Mo. — The Webb City Senior Little League softball team will be packing bags for the Central Region tournament in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, after defeating back-to-back state champions DeSoto in a competitive best-of-three series this weekend at King Jack Park.

Webb City had its back against the wall all weekend, dropping the first game 16-13 Saturday. They evened the series at a game each with a 16-15 win Sunday and captured the state title with a come-from-behind 24-23 win in Game 3, also Sunday.

Sunday’s Game 2 win included a Tiphani Sutten two-run homer in the bottom of the second.

Webb City led by as many as 10, at 12-2, in the third inning, but DeSoto battled back to within a run after plating seven in the seventh frame. The rally fell short as Webb City went on to win 16-15, setting up Game 3. Sutten finished 2 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs. Maddison McNamara was 2 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs, and Mackenzie Booth was 2 for 5 with one RBI.

Game 3 included nine runs in the final frame by Webb City to capture the state title.

DeSoto held a 3-1 lead after the first frame and plated a pair of runs in the top of the second to go up 5-1. Webb City answered with seven runs in the bottom of the frame to take its first lead at 8-5.

DeSoto regained the lead in the top of the third, plating four runs, but Webb City answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead at 10-9.

Bats exploded for DeSoto in the top of the fourth when they plated eight runs. Webb City made it an 17-12 game with a pair of scores in the bottom of the frame. Both teams scored twice in the fifth inning and went into the sixth with DeSoto holding a 19-14 lead.

DeSoto outscored Webb City 3-1 in the sixth to carry a 22-15 lead into the final frame, and added one run in the top of the seventh to increase it lead to 23-15.

Webb City caught fire in the bottom of the seventh, plating nine runs. Brooklyn Kean drove in Mackenzie Booth with a line drive double to center that trimmed the lead to 23-16. Sutten singled to third and plated Brook to make it a 23-17 game, and Christianna Marney made it 23-18 with a double to center that plated Sutten.

The DeSoto lead shrank to 23-19 courtesy of a Maddison McNamara single that brought Marney home, and Webb City pulled within three runs off an Allie Mealman infield single that scored Briley Farris.

Webb City whittled the lead down to two runs at 23-21 when McNamara stole home and pulled within one run off a Kean two-out single that plated Mealman.

Marney tied the game at 23-all when she drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Alaya Walker. Farris drew another walk that scored Kean, giving Webb City the 24-23 win.

McNamara and Marney both logged four hits in the game. McNamara went 4 for 5 with five RBIs and two runs, and Marney was 4 for 6 with three runs and three RBIs. Kean was 3 for 3 with six runs and three RBIs, Mealman was 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Farris finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs.
