Logan Webb will not even want to be watching a video replay of his start for the San Francisco Giants on Friday night, but the Colorado Rockies will be glad to watch it all night long.

Colorado's offense rocked Webb for 11 hits and seven earned runs in just three innings of work as the Rockies blasted the Giants 15-3 in front of a packed house at Coors Field in Denver. Webb took the loss, too.

Jake McCarthy had himself quite a night at the plate. He was pretty much the star of Friday night's game if MLB gave out stars like at the end of an NHL game.

How much of a blowout was it on the night before the Fourth of July? Gabriel Hughes came on in relief to make his major-league debut and pitched pretty well. Yet the story was the Rockies simply hammering Webb left and right.

Jake McCarthy Had a Big Night

McCarthy jumpstarted the Colorado offense with a leadoff home run against Webb, putting the Rockies up 1-0. Oh, we'll hear more from McCarthy later on as he put together a 4-for-5 night with two home runs, 10 total bases, and six RBIs.

Mickey Moniak and Hunter Goodman followed with singles to reach base, and TJ Rumfield, just named as the National League Rookie of the Month for June, connected for a single to load the bases.

Cole Carrigg coaxed a bases-loaded walk, bumping Colorado up to 2-0. Tyler Freeman then grounded into a double play, but another run scored and the Rockies jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

Ezequiel Tovar then slugged a two-run home run in the second inning over the left-center field wall, bringing Kyle Karros home ahead of him for a 5-0 advantage. That was Tovar's seventh home run this season. San Francisco notched a run in the top of the third inning, but the Rockies were not done hitting yet.

Carrigg led off the bottom of the third with a triple, then scored on Edouard Julien's RBI fielder's choice. Tovar then singled to right, and Julien moved up to second base. McCarthy then hit an RBI single, making it 7-1 Colorado and that wrapped up Webb's night.

San Francisco scored its second run in the top of the fourth on Bryce Eldridge's single that scored Jung Hoo Lee, cutting into the Colorado lead at 7-2. Then, well, the floodgates opened and the Rockies put the hammer down.

Grand Slam Put Rockies Way Ahead

McCarthy must have eaten his Wheaties because he smashed a grand-slam home run, providing the big blast in a seven-run fifth inning. That inning alone put Colorado far and away ahead of the Giants at 14-2.

The Giants scored another run in the sixth, but the Rockies matched that run with another one in the bottom of the seventh. By that time, it was Colorado up big and the Giants' players probably were looking to make dinner plans at that time.

But Karros had a little more pop in his bat. Karros hit a leadoff triple, and Tovar connected on an RBI sacrifice fly. It was Rockies 15, Giants 3, and time for Colorado to set its sights on getting into fourth place in the National League West Division.

Rockies starter Ryan Feltner was pretty solid in six innings of work for manager Warren Schaeffer. Feltner went six innings, giving up six hits, three runs (two earned), didn't walk a batter, and struck out nine. He picked up the victory. And Hughes? He threw three innings of shutout ball to get his first save in his MLB career.

With the victory, the Rockies have closed the gap between them and the Giants. Colorado is now just one game behind San Francisco. If the Rockies can keep on mashing the ball this weekend, then they will be sole owners of the fourth-place spot in the NL West.

Right now, the Rockies and Giants both have 36 wins this season but Colorado has two more losses. All the Rockies have to do is win on Saturday night to tie the Giants for fourth place. What about a sweep? Then, that's a whole different story.

A good story, of course, for the Rockies.
