Bingo. McFadden showed no vision his rookie year and was mediocre the latter part of the year.
McCoy's vision is awful and looks much more comfortable when he runs to the outside. I've heard reports that McCoy's eyes are bad. His instincts are top notch. One thing I love about McCoy though is that once he's in space he's dynamite. He has elite acceleration. He goes 0-60 in a flash. Top end speed will be questioned, though.

That said, I have not paid nearly enouhg attention to college ball this year as in years past. (Stupid grad school!)
Hightower's hesitation concerns me. And LJ? No thank you.
The Cards have recently had success scouting talent. Go get it.

My ideal situation would be we get a pick somewhere between 7-21 and we are able to take Knowshon Moreno. Now that is a guy that would fit perfectly with Hightower and there would also be no questioning of his instincts. I'm hoping Moreno runs a terrible 40 time so he drops some.

They also need a third Safety. As we saw in the SB, Francisco, who is an excellent Special Teamer, is a major liability in pass defense.

I would love to see Knowshon Moreno in a Cards jersey; I caught a few of his games this season and thought he looks the real deal. I don't think he'll slide down to 31, but I'm not going to complain about having the penultimate first round pick!

Kevin Jones, formerly of the Lions and recently with the Bears will be a free agent --- and I suspect, not an expensive one.
he has averaged 4 yards a carry for his career -- and with Forte showing up for the Bears last year -- only got spot duty.
Lots of tread left on the tires, and is now a full season removed from the injury that ended his 2007 season.

When looking at a potential RB for this offense, other than his running ability, I would be looking at what kind of skills he has as a receiver, & how good of a blocker he is. I think one of the reasons Edge got his job back late in the season was b/c he is a far better blocker.
Wow, did you really see it that way? From my seat at the game, i thought James had an awful first half. I recall him slipping to the ground on one run, dropping a pass, and fumbling a handoff (credited to Warner, but it looked like James was at fault). Fortunately he recovered his own fumble, but it seemed to me that he was single-handedly responsible for blowing three plays.
He did have a couple of decent runs and catches out of the backfield later in the game, but considering that the Steelers' safeties were playing so far off the line, i wasn't too impressed.
Overall, i thought for someone finally getting his chance to shine in the big game, he came up very, very small.
EDIT: Oh yeah - and he was called for the chop-block penalty, too, which ruined a drive with great field position after Breaston's long punt return.

HUH? That makes no sense at all.
That fumbled handoff was all Warner.
Edge played fine in the SB.

Paying big bucks for some other team's used up RB is what cost us AP (no disrespect to Edge but his best days were behind him). I think we should take the BPA. We are in a position to find the gems that fall through the cracks. If we have a draft as good as last years we will be awfully scary in the future.
It makes sense to me. The Steelers' safeties were conceding the run and swing passes to the backs, in order to stop Fitzgerald, who was held to only one catch before the 4th quarter!
Maybe i'll agree if i ever decide to watch my recording of the game, but from what i saw in person, it looked like James should've been able to handle the exchange. I haven't seen anyone else comment on that play either, so i have nothing else on which to base my opinion.

Interesting idea. He is still young so that is an upgrade over our previous FA RB signings. He might be a little redundant with Arrington though. Can Jones return kicks? Also, I think in Whiz/Grimm's desired system you want a speed back and a power back. Jones would definitely cover the speed back, but who covers power back then? Beanie Wells? Cedric Benson? Anyone?

Hightower still has a lot of upsided but at this point doesn't appear to be the go to guy. His lack of vision and patience at times is the area that needs improvement. He is one tough SOB and should see more playing time in 09.
Arrington is okayish. Some nice speed and can juke a DB on ocassion. He is okay on KO's and adequate as a pass receiver. I would make him an offer, but mostly so we could get a compensation draft pick.
Edge is another tough SOB with great vision and almost always gets another yd or 2 after contact. I do believe we need an upgrade and the salary cap relief. We need more speed at the starting RB position. I would wager that if all the RB's in the NFL lined up for a 40 yd dash/race that Edge would finish near the bottom.
Someone like Sproles would be perfect in this offense. The Steelers double Fitz in the first half and let the flats open. Lebeau is not an idiot, he knew we didn't have a RB that would make them pay the price with the outlet passes. Just imagine Sproles getting ball with that much room to make moves and use his speed. Seriously think about that. The double coverage on Fitz comes off immediately and then the offense is taking control of the game.

I've thought about it. Prefer to save some $ and find a RB on first day of the draft... and combine him with Hightower and JJ in a 3-back approach ala NY Giants.

Knowshon would be an incredible addition. Can we sign Warner and trade Leinart to move up to #10-ish to get Moreno?
I am in the keep Boldin camp and do not want to trade him almost regardless of the package.

I'm hoping they can get Beanie Wells or Moreno. Either of those two w/ Hightower would be a nice 1-2 punch.
Not sure how McCoy got tagged with having "no vision." I disagree but I also like Moreno. A few others too, as we'll discuss later. A RB with upside will be available to us even in round 2.

I did state someone like Sproles but I realize that's easier said then done.
I basically want an upgrade to JJ. Fast with some moves but not a quick twitch type. If we find that type of RB then JJ really doesn't have a role on this team unless you think he can be the everydown RB.
Whatever Whiz & RG decide upon is good with me.
