When McBride balled out and broke another record down by double digits, I looked at Wendy off the cuff and said, this is Vince Tobin / Larry Centers stuff right now. We are wasting historic level performance on a vaguely beige coach whomever everyone likes but is way out of his depth.

Then I decided to delve into the worst point differential in a 7 game span ever. It's as brutal as you would think

Tobin 2000 when fired -48
Tobin 1999 -73

Gannon 2023 - 92
Gannon 2025 - 85

Jonathan Gannon has 3 years of coaching. He has produced the top 2 worst 7 game spreads in Arizona Cardinals history (I didn't go beyond this but I feel confident -85 and -92 win)

98.7, if you steal this talking point as you do so often here, please at least credit the site.

Jonathan Gannon is worse than Vince Tobin and it sucks. Also, Tobin was a very likable composed defensive guy who coached the worst defenses.

Connect the dots.

Vince Tobin coached the Cardinals in 1997.

The American rock band 311 released a hit single in December 1997.

The name of the song was "Beautiful Disaster".

It's December and Big Red is 3-11.

I'm blaming Vince for creating this mess.

Sadly, these are not even close to the worst point differentials in 7-game spans!

Just a few examples:

Wilks 2018 last 7 games: -99 (though one was a win over the Packers!)

Whisenhunt 2012 weeks 7-14: -119 (culminating with the 0-58 loss to the Seahawks)

McGinnis 2003 weeks 10-16: -136 (en route to a craptacular -227 on the season)

Fun times!

I did allow some AI liberties here and even with some small fact check. AI is wrong

Even the argument that we have 3 10 win teams in our division and 3 of the huge losses are to them is not a good argument. I like Gannon, seems to be a good guy, was probably a good DC, but he's not a good HC. If Petzing was his idea and it sounds like it was, that was bad. And he says rallis is a genius but we've allowed 40 points plus in way too many games recently. Some of it is injuries and talent but much of it is scheme and coaching

Wholeheartedly agree with the Larry Centers comparison. What really gets me these last few weeks is the sheer ineptitude of the defense. There is no one injured on the defensive side of the ball. They were ok last year and we added some talent this year. The only explanation is they just don't believe in what the coaches are selling them anymore and are already making plans for Cancun. Based on that I'm having Buddy Ryan visions when that team just quit on him.
