The Indianapolis Colts selected Penn State tight end Tyler Warren at pick No. 14 in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.
"The last time I felt that good about pulling a pick -- and I felt good about all of them -- was Quenton (Nelson)," Chris Ballard said, via the Indy Star. "It was easy. It was easy. There wasn't a lot of discussion.”
Warren will bring that much-needed playmaking presence to the Colts' offense. He totaled 104 receptions last season and 1,230 yards with eight touchdowns.
Ballard would say that Warren's ability to threaten the middle of the field will help open up things elsewhere offensively, and that he is often open with his size and reliable hands.
With that said, Warren's impact will go beyond the passing game. He's also versatile, able to line up across the formation, and is a capable run-blocker. This do-it-all skill set adds some unpredictability to an offense.
"He's still got some growth to do, but No. 1, it tells you about his football IQ," Ballard said. "To be able to go in the slot, line up at tight end, line at wide, line at quarterback, line at fullback. I mean, they put a lot on that kid's plate and he handled it mentally. So, that just tells you that he's going to be able to handle a high volume on Sunday of whatever we ask him to do.”
