Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza threw his first professional touchdown during his preseason debut against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday, Aug. 13.
Mendoza's first score came in the second quarter. The No. 1 overall pick from the 2026 NFL Draft released a quick pass in the direction of second-year receiver Jack Bech on a third-and-goal from the 6-yard line.
Mendoza delivered the ball low and in an area where only Bech could make the catch. The 23-year-old went down and reeled it in to give Mendoza his big moment.
Mendoza's first touchdown was set up fellow rookie running back Mike Washington Jr. The fourth-rounder from Arkansas ripped off a 53-yard run that set Mendoza and the Raiders up in the red-zone for their second scoring opportunity of the contest.
Mendoza's touchdown was the second of the day for the Raiders. The first belonged to Kirk Cousins – who is expected to begin the season as the Raiders' starter ahead of Mendoza – and tight end Michael Mayer, who connected for a 13-yard score on Cousins' lone drive.
Cousins went 5 of 6 passing for 50 yards during his one drive of action. After two drives, Mendoza had completed 5 of 8 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.
