Wow they are getting rid of Barajas? Is that new catcher we just signed (Mayne) better than Barajas??

I don't understand why we signed Mayne, unless he took a HUGE paycut. He is 35 yrs. old, Barajas is like 28yrs. Mayne made $2.7 million last year, Barajas $300 K, Mayne batted .245 hit 6 hr's and had 36 RBI. Barajas hit .218, 3 hr's, and 28 rbi. Mayne also had 150 more AB's.
I am quite confused on why we just didn't resign Barajas.

Reynolds dominated on the road last season, but for some odd reason he struggled at
Turner Field.....
If the D'backs supplied the same kind of run support that Reynolds got from the Braves last season, then you could say that Elmer Dessens "dominated" the opposition... but that wouldn't make your statement true.Originally posted by KingLouieLouie

Reynolds > Dessens. Unless Dessens is used right, Pitching 5 innings per start or Long Relief, Hes useless. In the 6 or 7th ining he ALWAYS gets hammerd. Lets just hope BB is smart enough to realize this.
Joe Jr. seems to be on a personal campaign to supply him with the kind of players that will get him fired!Originally posted by mark1
My guess is that Robin Yount or Mark Grace will be our next manager. Brenly might not make it through 2004.
My choice is still an experienced Manager over Yount or Grace.Originally posted by mark1
Brenly isn't ********, he's just a lousy manager. He needs to go back to the broadcast booth. He isn't well liked by his players, and is a lousy communicator. How many times have we heard our players complain that they don't know what their role is? I don't see Brenly back in 2005. My guess is that Robin Yount or Mark Grace will be our next manager. Brenly might not make it through 2004.

Dominated on the road? Lets take a look shall we? Reynolds was 7-2 with a 4.22 ERA on the road last year. He pitched 91 inn and gave up 102 hits and the league hit .290 against him, for a team that won 100 games. Hardly dominate. In fact, it isn't very good. Reynolds was washed up years ago. We already have a Shane Reynolds, and his name is Elmer Dessens. We don't need a 36 year old version.
Tim Wakefield is one thing, but Sparks?

Why didn't this braindead team just wait until midnight tonight to find out who is non-tendered? Jason Johnson and Damian Moss are supposed to be non tendered by the Orioles. Moss is only 27 and had a good year in 2002 for the Braves. He sucked last year but, at least he has some upside. Johnson is 30, and a better pitcher than Reynolds right now. He went 10-10 with the Orioles last year with an era of 4.18
I think the point is that they don't suit their needs - or their concept of what they need is screwed up.Originally posted by KingLouieLouie
I'm not saying that Reynolds and Sparks are the best pitchers available, but considering the Dbacks financial constraints and how most of their high prospects will be ready by '05, then these 2 pitchers suit their needs....

We can all agree that it is necessary for them to sign a veteran (at a bargain price) who can prevent the Dbacks from rushing/wearing-out their younger starters....
