LOS ANGELES - Golden State Warriors two-way signee Pat Spencer was hesitant Thursday to talk about his contract conversion, at that point a formality.

"We've got some phone calls to make here," he said after scoring a career-high 20 via six 3-pointers versus the Phoenix Suns. "So, business is business. But I'm beyond thankful for this organization and what we've been able to do together."

Business was handled Saturday when the Warriors and Spencer agreed to convert his two-way contract into a standard deal for the rest of the season, the team announced. Spencer reached his limit of call-ups Thursday for the two-way deal - which allows signees to be active for 50 NBA games while playing in the G League - and will remain on the 15-man roster until restricted free agency this summer.

A third-year point guard, 29, Spencer averages 5.8 points (42.3% shooting, 43.1% 3-point shooting), 2.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists through 36 games, not playing in the 14 other contests during which he was on the 15-man roster.

He grinded through Golden State's G League program and first earned a two-way contract in 2023-24, playing six games that year for the Warriors. As a two-way signee again last season, he played 6.4 minutes in 39 games and came off the bench for key spot minutes in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"He's continued to get better and better," Draymond Green said earlier this season. "Pat just has a bravado about him. A sense of pride that he plays with every night, every time he steps on the floor. But his skill level has gone up."

A roster crunch prompted Spencer to sign another two-way contract with the Warriors this season - despite interest from other teams - and improved 3-point shooting helped him crack the backend of the rotation. In five starts this season, he's averaged 14.6 points (49.1% shooting, 54.2% 3-point shooting), 5.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists. He's one of Golden State's top attackers with a steady feel for driving and kicking.

"When he shoots that shot even if he doesn't make it, it sets up the offense," head coach Steve Kerr said postgame Thursday, referencing Spencer's 3-point shooting. "We can crash. We can get offensive boards. There's a flow to the game. If people want to go under screens or don't pay attention to him, he's got to let it fly."

Kerr had long hoped publicly the Warriors would convert Spencer's contract. Hope fulfilled, roster spot filled with one - and a two-way opening - remaining.

"I'm relieved," Kerr said. "I was really worried that we were going to lose him after 50 games and not be able to do anything. It's a relief now to get him on the main roster and you can see what he's capable of."
