Golden State Warriors backup point guard De'Anthony Melton has officially declined his $3.45 million player option to become a free agent, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac.

This doesn't come as much of a surprise, as the former USC guard was expected to test the market. Last season with the Warriors, Melton averaged a career-high 12.3 points to go along with 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.4 blocks. Due to financial constraints after re-signing Kristaps Porzingis, the Warriors could be priced out of retaining Melton despite interest in having him back. However, Golden State will have more clarity on how to allocate the rest of their cap space after free agent forward LeBron James decides on his newest team.
