War in Iran: Moussa Djenepo recounts his journey from Tehran to Bamako.

Malian footballer Moussa Djenepo, who plays in Iran for Esteghlal, fled the country after the American and Israeli strikes. Upon arriving "safely" in Bamako, the former Standard Liège and Southampton player shared the story of his forced journey on his social media accounts.

After joining Esteghlal from Standard Liège last summer, Moussa Djenepo's adventure came to a sudden end. It was not football, but the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran that forced the 27-year-old winger to leave the country. Djenepo wrote on his social media accounts: "After a long and exhausting journey from Tehran to Bamako following the attacks, I arrived safely and peacefully." The former Southampton player added: "This journey was not easy, but thanks to God, I am safe today."

It appears Moussa Djenepo has closed the chapter on his Iranian experience for good, even though his contract runs until 2027.

Despite the difficulties, I also lived a beautiful adventure. I had some wonderful moments and enjoyed every match. I sincerely want to thank everyone who sent me messages, called, or checked in on me. Your support truly touched me. I'm also thinking of my Iranian friends and teammates, as well as the Iranian people. May peace, stability, and safety return soon.
