At this point we are all rollin with Nolen.

If Will Johnson can stay healthy I think our first 2 picks this year are as good as we've had in one draft in ages. Maybe gotta go back to 04, Fitz, Dansby and Dockett first 3 picks.

I admittedly had miniscule expectations for big Walt. I was so poisoned by our Olulari/Robinson nightmare that I didn't think any player coming off of injury for the Cardinals was capable of contributing much. So glad to be wrong. It was great to hear him say that as good as he played, he's already moved on to Seattle.

the NFL guys with wrestling backgrounds have always been really good because they understand balance. I have no idea Walter has a wrestling background but someone has clearly taught him the value of balance. He gets Smith thinking he's going inside so he starts that way and then bam he uses his hands to push him that way as Walter goes the other way. All the balance and momentum from Smith is now going the wrong way and it's amazing how quickly Nolen is completely free to go get Dak.

They talk about RB's that make guys miss in a phone booth that's what Nolen did to Smith
I love how he wraps up tight when he gets his hands on someone. He doesn't just hit, he hits and wraps.

Really exciting stuff. Not because of the results so much as what you see in his technique. There's so many small nuances that go into all positions but especially D line and you can see that Walter has a deep understanding of them. Great to see.
It just shows why it can be important to identify players with pass rush skills already in place (hands, balance, leverage, quickness, motor) vs guys who you have to try and teach those skills to.

Exactly. This is why I wanted us to draft Nolen so badly. He's a penetrator that has the moves already to disrupt the backfield, especially in the passing game. He is an Aaron Donald type. Notice I said type :)

I watched a bunch of the replays online and the amazing thing about Nolen, and we talked about it in the game thread, there are points where he is absolutely gassed. He was having trouble getting into his stance, he comes out and struggles to run off the field. And then a few plays later he's back out there making a play. Considering how much time he's missed to be able to go out and do that was so impressive

I wonder if he has to carry bad weight like some players do to stay up or if he will be able to be like others who can transition some "baby weight" to muscle and still hit their weight requirements.

I think he is at a heavier weight than when he played in college, have a feeling the months of football missed resulted in him gaining weight. But heh as been a monster when on the field.
