If you grew up here in the 70's there a good chance you were a big Walter Davis fan.

The 1977-78 team with Davis, Paul Westphal, Alvan Adams, Gar Heard and Don Buse is still my favorite Suns team.

Walter Davis received MVP votes as a rookie but never averaged that many points again in a season. Very interesting career in more ways than one.

I remember when he transitioned from guard to small forward. Seemed like a big deal at the time.

Their offense basically Westphal, Davis and Adams, so they got a lot of shots up (although Davis's 32 minutes a game were the team high). There were a lot of guys - Buse, Heard, Awtrey, Scott and Lee - who were defense first and offense was an afterthought for them.

The amazing thing was how efficient Davis was. 10th in FG% in 1977-78 and 7th in 1978-79. And he was mostly an mid-range to perimeter shooter.
