It was a year to remember for top high school sports teams throughout the Eugene-Springfield area.
On the girls side, several squads took home state titles throughout the 2025-26 season, while many others delivered deep postseason runs and podium performances.
Now, it's time for you to decide which was the best of the best.

It was a year of redemption for Marist Catholic volleyball, which captured the Class 4A state title and finished a dominant year 21-1. The Spartans' triumph in the title match came on the heels of an agonizing loss to Marshfield in the 2024 championship.

Led by a strong nucleus of talented seniors and freshmen, Sheldon made its first run to the Class 6A state semifinals in four years. The Irish captured the Southwest Conference championship and finished with a 28-6 overall record.

It was a historic year for South Eugene girls water polo. The Axe captured their first-ever state title — and did so in comeback fashion — when they defeated Lakeridge 10-3 in the championship match.

In the final season of coach Brandy Wormdahl's historic career, North Eugene surged to the Class 5A title game before falling to state champion Bend in a 1-0 nail-biter. The Highlanders ran the table up until that point and finished the year 17-1.

The Marist Catholic girls soccer dynasty rolled on last fall as the Spartans won their third title in four years. Marist Catholic beat The Dalles/Dufur, 2-0, in the Class 4A final to cap off a 17-1-1 season.

Despite landing at No. 7 in the final coaches poll of the season, the South Eugene girls cross-country team shattered the form charts with a second-place finish at the Class 6A state championships — matching the second-best placing in program history. The Axe squad of Eva Johnson Hess, Madison Zemper-Prill, Julianne Bawden, Alaya Drummond, Frances Blake, Eleanora Dimen, and Cora Ludwig also completed a historic 1-7 sweep at the Southwest Conference championships.

One of the more historically dominant girls basketball programs in the state produced one of its best-ever seasons in 2025-26. Springfield won the Midwestern League title in a loaded conference and ran all the way to the Class 5A state title game before falling 51-48 to West Albany in a thrilling championship matchup. The Millers finished the year 25-4.

After emerging as league champions from a loaded Mountain Valley Conference, the Bulldogs earned the No. 4 seed at the Class 3A state tournament and surged to the state semifinals. That squad featured many overlapping contributors from Creswell's state semifinal soccer team.

The Eagles nearly captured the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state title, placing second with 122 points. That was just 10 fewer than state champion La Grande. Eden Ridgley (100 pounds) and Paxton Steele (110) each won individual state titles for Harrisburg.
A late surge from Junction City's talented group of jumpers and sprinters propelled the Tigers to second place at the Class 4A state championship meet. They racked up 63.5 points — just 10.5 fewer than state champion Klamath Union.
