Here are The Arizona Republic's picks for the top 10 high school boys track and field athletes from the sixth week of the 2026 season (March 30-April 4). Vote in our poll for the athlete you think had the best week. The poll closes on Friday, April 10, at 6 p.m. Print readers can find the poll online at azcentral.com/sports/high-schools.
Both wind-legal and non-wind legal marks were considered.
1. Malachi Joyner, Gilbert Williams Field, throws, Sr.
He won the shot put at the 2nd annual Just Us Classic on April 1, throwing 60 feet, 3 inches to build on his existing state lead.
2. Drew Pollard, Gilbert Campo Verde, throws, Sr.
He won the javelin at the Nightmare at The Nest on April 2 with a massive personal best, throwing 196-4 to set the state lead.
3. Micah Newkirk, Chandler Valley Christian, distance, Sr.
He ran 1:52.47 in the 800 meters to finish fifth at the Oregon Relays on April 4, moving up to No. 2 in the state. He also won his section of the 1,600 meters, running 4:15.89.
4. Kelson Hogan, Tempe Corona del Sol, throws, Jr.
He won the javelin at the Becky Matthews Invitational on April 2, throwing 194-2 to move up to No. 2 in the state.
5. Isaac Rhonehouse, Oro Valley Ironwood Ridge, sprints, Sr.
He won the 100 at the Sabercat Invitational on April 2, running 10.69 to move up to No. 4 in the state. He also hit 22-9 in the long jump, No. 5 in the state; and ran 21.65 (+2.3 wind) in the 200, No. 4 all-conditions in the state.
6. Terik Slaughter, Phoenix Pinnacle, jumps, So.
He won the high jump at The Moretti Midweek on April 1, clearing 6-6 to move up to No. 3 in the state.
7. Caleb Nold, Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor, throws, Jr.
He won the shot put at the OC/Shadow Ridge/McClintock/Goldwater Quad meet on April 1, throwing 57-0 to move up to No. 4 in the state.
8. Logan Lute, Chandler Basha, throws, Sr.
He came in second in the javelin at the Nightmare at The Nest on April 2, throwing 188-5 to move up to No. 4 in the state.
9. Jett Merrill, Oro Valley Ironwood Ridge, hurdles, Jr.
He won the 300-meter hurdles at the Sabercat Invitational on April 2, running 38.61 to move up to No. 5 in the state.
10. Crew Comish, Mesa Red Mountain, distance, Jr.
He won the 3,200 at the Nightmare at The Nest on April 2, running 9:23.09 to move up to No. 7 in the state.
11. Jude Crawford, Chandler Hamilton, distance, Jr.
He won the 3,200 at the Scottsdale Distance Classic on April 2, running 9:28.26 to move up to No. 9 in the state.
12. Ryker Montgomery, Gilbert Campo Verde, throws, Sr.
He came in third in the shot put at the Nightmare at The Nest on April 2, throwing 54-6 to move up to No. 6 in the state; he also won the discus with a throw of 171-6.
13. Reyden Stewart, Waddell ALA West Foothills, throws, Jr.
He won the discus at the Verrado Senior Night Meet, throwing 159-9 to move up to No. 8 in the state.
14. Owen Merrill, Lake Havasu, throws, Sr.
He won the javelin at the Ben McIvor Memorial Track Qualifier on April 3, throwing 176-1 to move up to No. 10 in the state.
15. Conover Pitts, Snowflake, hurdles, Sr.
He won the 300-hurdles at the Blue Ridge Invitational on April 2, running 39.41 to move up to No. 10 in the state.
