Readers can vote for their choice for Wrestler of the Week at the bottom of the page.

Voting closes Monday, Jan. 12 at noon.

Please note that only one wrestler from each team was selected for the poll. Additionally, votes don't always show up immediately. There are lags for the votes to register and a winner isn't declared until hours after the poll closes.

Preseason poll winner: Spotswood’s Malcom Ballard:
He had a strong rookie season as the first Spotswood freshman to qualify for the region tournament since 1999. Ballard to off to another promising start with a second-place finish in the EB Bear Invitational at 132 and has proven to be an entertaining wrestler. He has a 22-12 win and a 21-17 loss thus far.

Wrestlers of the Week

Jhonny Collado, Woodbridge

The senior has quickly gotten into wrestling shape coming off football season. He captured an EB Bear Invitational title with a 5-2 TB-1 win at 285.

George Crostewitz, East Brunswick

The senior has five straight pins, which includes a EB Bear Invitational championship at 175 and two falls in the Brunswick Brawl quad meet.

Nico DeRado, St. Joseph

The junior defeated returning state medalist Warren Hills’ Augie Szamreta 18-8 en route to a John Goles Tournament title at 126 and reached the fifth consolation round at the Beast of the East.

Janiya Orihuela, North Brunswick

The junior won a Ron Mazzola Memorial Tournament title, took fourth in the Rebel Rumble and was 2-0 as the Raiders went 2-0 in the Brunswick Brawl. Orihuela took a key toss up bout 8-5 to help the Raiders to a 36-28 win over East Brunswick.

Kacper Trzeciak, Sayreville

Trzeciak has followed up his breakout, 32-win junior season with a hot 12-0 start at heavyweight. He beat Neptune state qualifier Jarairya Jean 7-4 in the Holmdel Holiday Tournament final. Trzeciak also captured a Minuteman Classic gold medal.

Wilfredo Villalongo, Carteret

Two tournaments. Two gold medals. Not a bad start for the senior who won the Rahway Holiday Tournament and the A-Nice Invitational at 215. The senior added three pins in under a minute each during a quad last weekend.
