Here are this week's nominees for The Arizona Republic's boys' and girls' athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. Nominees are based on performances in AIA-sanctioned sports the week of Nov. 17-22. Vote for the top selection in each of our polls below. Voting will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, and winners will be announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Arizona Republic on Saturday, Nov. 29. Jolee Baddeley, Scottsdale Christian Academy, flag football, So.: She had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, to help lead the Eagles to a 10-7 win over Laveen Heritage Academy in the 3A state championship in Tempe on Nov. 22.
Amaya Moreno, Gilbert Campo Verde, flag football, Jr.: She threw for 225 yards and four touchdowns on 21 of 25 passing, also running for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 13 attempts, to help lead the Coyotes to a 57-0 win over Scottsdale Chaparral in the 5A state championship in Tempe on Nov. 22.
Audrey Bhesania, Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor, basketball, Sr.: She had 31 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 77-53 season-opening win over Chandler Hamilton on Nov. 19.
Jeffery Cochran, Eagar Round Valley, football, Sr.: He had seven receptions for 147 yards and two touchdowns on offense and recorded seven tackles on defense in a 42-28 road win over Chandler Valley Christian in the 3A semifinals on Nov. 22.
Will Mencl, Chandler, football, Jr.: He threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns, also running for 146 yards and three touchdowns on 16 attempts, in a 45-34 win over Phoenix Brophy Prep in the Open Division quarterfinals on Nov. 21.
James Davis, Glendale Independence, basketball, Sr.: He had 32 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and two assists in an 81-67 season-opening win over Laveen Fairfax on Nov. 19.
