It's time to vote for the athlete of the week from the High Desert.

Twelve athletes from across the region are in the running for the Joe Orthodontics High School Athlete of the Week.

Each week throughout the 2025-26 school year, the Daily Press will recognize one standout student-athletes from the High Desert as Athlete of the Week.

Through nominations submitted by coaches, as well as our own research, those selected will be placed on a ballot every week. The nominations are limited to only varsity athletes.

You can vote for your favorite high school athletes as often as you’d like. The poll closes at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday night.

CIF-SS Softball Semis: 15 Ks by Morris, pair of homers lead Riverside Prep

Here are the choices for this week, based on performances from May 18 to 23.

• America Barajas, Riverside Prep softball — Barajas drove in a run in a 7-2 victory over La Serna in the CIF quarterfinals on May 20. She followed that by hitting the go-ahead home run in the ninth inning and finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 4-2 semifinal victory over Dos Pueblos on May 23.
• Belen Gonzalez, Oak Hills track and field — Gonzalez placed 11th in the girls 3,200 with a time of 10:43.75 at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet on May 23.
• Daisy Hernandez, Riverside Prep softball — Hernandez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run in a 7-2 quarterfinal victory over La Serna on May 20. She followed that by hitting a double in a 4-2 semifinal victory over Dos Pueblos on May 23.
• Deshaun Kaeo-Kahalioumi, Apple Valley track and field — Kaeo-Kahalioumi placed fourth in the boys discus with a throw of 181 feet, 8 inches at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet on May 23.
• Emmalina Tisdale, Victor Valley track and field — Tisdale placed 12th in the girls discus with a throw of 118 feet, 11 inches at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet on May 23.
• Jordan Spencer, Oak Hills track and field — Spencer placed ninth in the boys 400 with a time of 48.02 seconds at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet on May 23.
• Noah Walker, Oak Hills track and field — Walker placed 12th in the boys high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 6 inches at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet on May 23.
• Reniyah Rosborough, Victor Valley track and field — Rosborough placed 11th in the girls 100 with a time of 11.76 seconds at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet on May 23.
• Riley Piorkowski, Hesperia Christian softball — Piorkowski went 3-for-5 with two runs in an 11-3 quarterfinal victory over Sierra Vista on May 21. She followed that by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases in a semifinal loss to Arroyo on May 23.
• Ryan Merles, Silver Valley track and field — Merles placed eighth in the boys long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 5.5 inches at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet on May 23.
• Serwaah Sarpong, Silver Valley track and field — Sarpong placed ninth in the girls triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, 1 inch at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet on May 23.
• Taylor Godwin, Granite Hills softball — Godwin went 3-for-5 with a run in a 15-4 quarterfinal victory over St. Genevieve on May 20. She followed that by hitting a solo home run in a semifinal loss to Irvine on May 23.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
