Cole Berth, Coleman wrestling

The senior won all three of his matches at 165 pounds at the WIAA Division 2 team state tournament, helping the Cougars earn a runner-up finish.

Berth beat Port Washington freshman Grant Melichar with a 13-11 decision in a quarterfinal and followed with a 3-2 decision over Gale-Ettrick-Trempealau/Melrose-Mindoro sophomore Merek Windsor in a semifinal.

He capped his prep career by pinning Evansville freshman Jonathon McCarthy in 16 seconds in the championship round.

Berth, who also qualified for individual state, won more than 40 matches this season.

Faye Brunke, Bay Area Ice Bears

A second straight week with Brunke as a candidate? She left no choice in the matter.

After the Pulaski senior helped the Ice Bears reach the WIAA state tournament one week earlier, she was one of the stars on the big stage in leading her team to a second straight state championship.

Brunke had two goals in a 5-1 win over Sun Prairie in a semifinal and three goals and one assist in the 5-4 title game win over St. Croix.

Aisling Buchan, Bay Area Ice Bears

Brunke’s young teammate and fellow forward also had a noteworthy state tournament run.

The Bay Port sophomore scored two goals against Sun Prairie and scored the first goal of the game against St. Croix to help the Ice Bears lead 3-0 lead after the first 17 minutes.

Buchan added a team-high three assists in the title game win.

Will Krueger, De Pere boys basketball

The Fox River Classic Conference player of the year lived up to his MVP status to help the Redbirds reach D1 sectional play.

The junior guard had 20 points and 4 assists in a regional semifinal against Oconomowoc, shooting 8-for-12 overall and 3-for-6 from 3.

He was even better in a regional championship win over Menomonee Falls, finishing with 25 points and 6 rebounds while shooting 8-for-16 overall and 7-for-12 from 3.

Krueger is averaging a team-high 16.9 points and is shooting 47.9% from beyond the arc.

Kyler Marks, Seymour basketball

The senior forward-center played a big part in two wins last week to help the Thunder reach D3 sectionals.

He had 24 points, 16 rebounds and shot 12-for-16 against Menominee Nation.

Marks followed with 13 points against Wittenberg-Birnamwood in a regional championship.

Destiny Webster, Green Bay Notre Dame basketball

The senior was instrumental in leading the Tritons to the D1 state tournament.

Webster had a game-high 18 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds in 54-48 sectional semifinal win over Kimberly.

As for an encore?

She had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks in a 69-54 sectional title victory over Stevens Point.
