The Coloradoan is again proud to present our weekly Athlete of the Week series, partnering with Blue Federal Credit Union to honor the best Fort Collins-area high school athletes in the 2025-26 school year.

There are five nominees every week, and fans can vote every Monday through Thursday at coloradoan.com/sports.

This is the 33rd week of the 2025-26 sports year, and we're down to just a handful of sports left in spring championship season.

You can find the nominees and the ballot below. Voting is open this week until 11:59 a.m. on May 14, with the winner announced later that same day.

Fans can nominate their favorite athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Sunday) and the Coloradoan sports staff will ultimately select the nominees each week.

If you have nominations for a future Athlete of the Week, please send them via email to [email protected] for consideration.

Meet the Blue FCU Boys Athlete of the Week nominees

The following Fort Collins-area boys athletes are nominated for their performances May 4-9:

  • Guy Curtis, Fort Collins track and field: The Lambkins senior is going out in style on the field this spring. Curtis will enter the 5A state meet as the long jump champion at Teddy's Last Chance Qualifier, missing out on the meet record by a quarter of an inch with a mark off 22 feet, 5 3/4 inches.
  • Luc Gaca Thiele, Fossil Ridge baseball: It was a big week for the SaberCat senior to wrap up the regular season. Gaca Thiele went 4-for-10 at the plate with two homers, 10 RBIs and six runs scored, while also tossing four innings with seven strikeouts in a 2-1 week for Fossil.
  • Cade Keller, Wellington baseball: The Eagles are also postseason-bound in Class 3A, with Keller providing some pop in a competitive week. The senior went 6-for-9 at the plate with seven RBIs, a home run and a double over three games.
  • Sam Lofstrom, Rocky Mountain swimming: The Lobos senior finished out his illustrious high school career in the pool with another strong state meet. Lofstrom took runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle with an All-American consideration time and placed fifth in the 100 free as one of 5A's top swimmers.
  • Liam Pettis, PSD lacrosse: The Stars season came to an end in the playoffs, but not before a postseason win. Pettis was sensational in the senior's final home match, scoring four goals with an assist to count for more than half of PSD's scores in a 9-6 win over Heritage in the 5A first round.
