This week's Blue Federal Credit Union Boys Athlete of the Week award is sending the ball flying past the fences as high school baseball season winds down.
Fort Collins baseball's Kaden Souders took top honors in the Fort Collins area for the week of May 11-16 after a grand senior sendoff in a regional to remember.
Souders had two home runs and six RBIs in a comeback regional-opening win over No. 22 Heritage.
Trailing 5-1 in the late innings, the Lambkins came all the way back and forced extra innings. With the bases loaded, Souders walked it off with a mammoth grand slam in the eighth inning to complete an incredible, improbable victory.
Though Fort Collins ultimately fell in a regional final defeat to No. 27 Chatfield, Souders added another hit and three RBIs for a remarkable regional day.
It capped a phenomenal two-sport career for the Lambkins senior.
He was a two-time baseball and football all-conference selection and hit over .300 in all three varsity seasons on the diamond, including a .342 average with a city-best seven homers this spring.
Souders is the second straight baseball player to earn Blue FCU Boys Athlete of the Week honors after Wellington's Cade Keller last week. He also joins teammate Dylan Rubenstein as a winner this spring.
Fort Collins fans made their votes count, lifting Souders to the win with 66.3% of the total vote.
That ultimately propelled the senior star ahead of these four other outstanding boys Athlete of the Week nominees:
