The Virginia Tech Hokies have added their second transfer since the portal opened earlier this month. On Thursday, Miles Heide, formerly of San Diego State, announced his commitment to Virginia Tech for the 2026-27 season.
A three-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, Heide is a 6-foot-9, 235-pound forward/center from North Bend, Washington. As a freshman for the Aztecs in 2023-24, Heide appeared in 37 games, making one start. He averaged 1.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
In 2024-25, Heide played in 30 games, making eight stars, averaging 4.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Last season, he started 31 of 32 games, and averaged 5.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.
Heide should start at center for the Hokies in 2026-27, joining fellow newcomer Kuol Atak and the returning Amani Hansberry in the frontcourt. Tech lost both centers from last season, as Christian Gurdak (Rutgers) and Antonio Dorn (Wake Forest) transferred.
Heide is more known for his play on the defensive end than on offense, but Tech needs a rim protector, and he fits the bill. Heide is also a strong rebounder, which the Hokies need with Tobi Lawal’s graduation.
Head coach Mike Young still has more holes to fill, but Heide and Atok are a good start.
