With the news that Kyler Murray has won the starting quarterback job for the Minnesota Vikings, the immediate reaction is that J.J. McCarthy will probably be on a different team sometime in the near future.
It remains uncertain at the moment what the Vikings want to do, but certain teams stand out as potential suitors for McCarthy more than others.
McCarthy didn't exactly star during his time at Michigan under head coach Jim Harbaugh, as the Wolverines didn't throw the football as much as other top quarterback prospects have in the past, but he definitely found a lot of success there.
There's a reason the young man is a national champion, and if one coach can get him back to that level, it might be his former college head coach. In a recent trade proposal, the Vikings would send him to the Los Angeles Chargers to reunite him with his former coach.

McCarthy and Lance are both former first-round selections whose NFL careers haven't unfolded as originally expected. Lance has settled into the backup role behind Herbert, while McCarthy could now find himself in a similar position behind Murray,” Chris Spiering wrote.
This isn't a deal that really feels great for the Vikings, but it's not the worst idea if they're just trying to move on from McCarthy and don't believe that he has any future in Minnesota.
The better idea would probably be to wait a little bit and see if Murray can be the guy they expect him to be. There's so much that has to happen that anything is truly possible here, but a reunion with Harbaugh doesn't seem as crazy as it might sound.
