The 2026 NFL Draft will take place in Pittsburgh next April, a city that could be where the Vikings select the next star they add to their roster in hopes of righting the proverbial ship. Before next April, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup for the team and who they may add to the roster through the draft. Thankfully, we now have some added context for players now that the scouting combine has come and gone.
NFL Network's Nick Shook recently released the latest 2026 NFL mock draft of the cycle, which has the team going in a similar direction to previous mocks as he has them going safety, specifically Emmanuel McNeil-Warren. The Toledo safety has aced the pre-draft process, and as a result, he has entrenched himself in the first round of mock drafts.
Shook explains the McNeil-Warren pick, writing, "The Vikings will need a replacement for Harrison Smith sooner or later, whether or not he retires before the season. They find one in McNeil-Warren, a high-energy safety capable of both playing in the box (where he can deliver the blow) and erasing advantages downfield; it's the ideal blend for Brian Flores' creative defense."
Shook is the first person we have seen in a mock draft say that they need to go safety regardless if Harrison Smith returns or not. It is a move that makes sense, and with the change in the front office, perhaps they start to prepare better for some of their established veterans to leave going forward.
