The Minnesota Vikings must be in hell right now, a year after moving on from Sam Darnold, only to see him lead the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl.

The Vikings decided the best course of action was to go forward with J.J. McCarthy, a move that, at least right now, doesn't seem to be working out too well.

Of course, there is still plenty of time for McCarthy to develop into the quarterback the Vikings want, but in the meantime, does he need a proper veteran behind him?

CBS Sports' Garrett Podell thinks so and has an idea that sees Kirk Cousins land back in Minnesota.

"Minnesota obviously won't be giving up on McCarthy after one year of playing, but perhaps they would like to bring another veteran into their quarterback room to perhaps start the season," Podell wrote. "The Atlanta Falcons are under new management after hiring franchise legend Matt Ryan as their team president and Kevin Stefanski as their new coach.

"Trading Cousins back to the Vikings could be a win for all parties involved."

Surely Vikings won't want reunion?

Cutting Cousins isn't an option due to the dead money, but a post June 1 trade would save the Falcons $12 million in cap space, while only eating $12.5 million in dead money, per Over The Cap.

Still, would the Vikings want to bring Cousins back to serve as McCarthy's backup? Or perhaps more importantly, would Cousins want to be a backup?

Or does he see himself as a starter?

Either way, a Minnesota reunion for Cousins seems rather odd, and the Vikings might just try their hand at a quarterback in free agency, so they don't have to part ways with any draft capital.

Still, this is the NFL, so never say never.
