When Tom Brady was with the Patriots, he built a reputation of making himself available for postgame handshakes after Super Bowl wins but disappearing into the locker room after losses. So, there was some curiosity into how Patriots quarterback Drake Maye would handle a Super Bowl defeat.
And, well, it seemed like Maye also had that in common with Brady. But it likely wasn't his intention.
In the immediate moments after a Super Bowl, it's a chaotic scene on the field. The winning team's players, staff, families take the field to celebrate. There's media and stadium personnel everywhere. There's confetti falling. Sometimes, it's simply difficult to pick out a specific person from the scrum. That probably played into Mike Vrabel's salty handshake with Mike Macdonald.
Video also appeared to show Maye experiencing that dilemma after the Patriots' Super Bowl 60 loss to the Seahawks.
As everyone took the field following the game, video captured Maye looking around to presumably shake hands with Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold. After a few moments of unsuccessfully looking for Darnold, Maye was guided off the field by a Patriots staffer.
The Seahawks' Mike Morris did manage to spot Maye and share a moment of respect. But after that exchange, Maye was escorted off the field and into the tunnel.
If a meeting did happen between Maye and Darnold, it would have taken place behind the scenes and not on the field.
