The Super Bowl LX loss was the ugliest of the season for the New England Patriots. Their improbable journey to the NFL's biggest game came screeching to a halt after going toe-to-toe with a quiet juggernaut in the Seattle Seahawks.

A lasting image of a misty-eyed Drake Maye watching on in disbelief as the final seconds ticked off the clock, ultimately sealing the Patriots' fate as the Super Bowl loser, is how the 2025 season ended. How the 2026 season begins will be up to Maye and company when the Patriots go on the road to face the Seahawks in a rematch on Wednesday, September 9.

The third-year quarterback opened up about the rematch for the first time when speaking with media members on Wednesday.

"I think it's a chance for us to get some extra motivation in training camp," Maye said, via Patriots Wire's Sophie Weller. "...A chance to get an opponent that left a bad taste in our mouth. It's something that's going to really make us work."

Drake Maye on opening up the season against the Seattle Seahawks:

Maye finished the game going 27-of-43 passing for 295 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also lost a fumble to a Seahawks defense that completely dominated the game.

With that said, both teams have undergone significant changes in the offseason. The Seahawks have lost multiple players from that championship team, including Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, Boye Mafe, Riq Woolen and Coby Bryant.

Meanwhile, the Patriots have improved along the offensive line, added another playmaking tight end, boosted an already talented defensive unit and they are expected to trade for A.J. Brown at wide receiver. New England is positioned to put up a serious fight against the defending champions on the road.
