SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Wall has hit its stride heading into the final week of the regular season.

The No. 8 Wall Lady Hawks made a statement by knocking out a heavyweight, sweeping then-No. 1 Clyde. Wall handed the Lady Bulldogs their first two losses of the entire season, winning games one and two of the away-and-home series by scores of 5-0 and 3-1. The Lady Hawks’ heroics have earned the team a spot in the latest Class 3A Division II rankings, jumping from 15th to eighth.

Wall has the rest of this week off before hosting No. 16 Jim Ned in its regular season finale on Friday, April 17. Until then, coaches and players react to sweeping the No. 1 ranked team.

“My biggest excitement about that is [Wall] competed until the very end,” Wall head coach Allyson Seider said. “We knew that if we found a way to compete all seven innings, we would find a way to win.”

In the players’ vision, the game is all about competing. And it helps when teammates have each other’s backs.

“I think what worked well was that [Wall] came in not as if we were going to beat [Clyde], but [also] not as if [Wall was] going to lose, but that we were just going to go and compete,” senior Madee Williams said. “We talk all week about just competing and playing as a team. Whatever our job is at the play on defense, we do our job and we’ll be successful.”

In addition to competing and having each other’s backs, encouragement is key.

“I think we just competed really well,” junior Jaiden Kleman said. “[Wall] played for each other, stayed up and kept encouraging each other.”
