SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The defending state champions find themselves in familiar territory entering the final weeks of the regular season.

The No. 6 Wall Hawks enter the first week of April on a red-hot, 14-game winning streak, currently 16-7 overall and 8-0 in district. The Hawks most recently swept Merkel in a home-and-away series, outscoring the Badgers 30-2 in just two games. In addition to the winning streak, the Hawks have produced double-digit victory margins in each of their last nine games.

Up next, Wall gears up to face Clyde. The No. 6 Hawks’ battle-tested mentality hasn’t changed.

“I think we all just played as a team and played together [versus Merkel],” senior Hagyn Barbee said. “Everything we did was for each other and just trying to get the bat to the next player. No moment’s too big for us, and we just do everything with purpose.”

Barbee’s teammate Wyatt Jost discusses his team’s mindset versus Clyde.

“We’re going to treat this game like any other game we do,” Jost said. “We’re going to stay locked in, just do our jobs as we always do and we’ll get the job done.”

After a 2-7 start to the season, head coach Jeremy Gordon reflects on his team’s journey since.

“At the beginning of the year, [our season was] a roller coaster,” Gordon said. “Right now, we’re on the rise up. You never want to peak too early or plateau too early. We’re continuing to stack good days on top of good days. We’re continuing to rise and that’s really what you want at this point in the season.”

Wall’s first game at Clyde begins Thursday, April 2 at 7 p.m. CST. The Hawks go for their 15th straight win.
