After an impressive season, MLB invited two USC baseball players to their draft combine in Arizona from July 11-12.
USC pitchers Mason Edwards and Grant Govel both earned invitations to the combine, as well as the Trojans’ highest-ranked commit Dustin Dunwoody.
At the combine, Edwards and Govel will participate in a wide array of events such as an on-field showcase, biomechanical testing, strength and conditioning testing, medical testing and interviews with teams.
Edwards had a great season with the Trojans, standing out among his peers as an excellent hurler. Through his 95.2 innings pitched, he led the nation with 169 strikeouts and had a 2.07 ERA with an 8-0 record.

He earned Baseball America’s National Pitcher of the Year, as well as All-American honors.
Govel also had a great season, pitching a team-leading 103.1 innings and posting a 10-3 record. He had a 2.87 ERA over the course of the season, as well as an extraordinarily low 0.90 WHIP. While Govel is only a sophomore, an injury-deferral year between high school and college means he is draft-eligible due to his age.
The Trojans also had two players attend the combine last season, as Ethan Hedges and Caden Hunter both attended and got drafted following their participation. The Colorado Rockies drafted Hedges in the third round, and the Orioles drafted Hunter in the sixth round.
Dunwoody has the same opportunities as Govel and Edwards, though rather than the on-field showcase, he has access to a live game exclusively for high school participants.
The right-handed pitcher from Simi Valley reached 96 miles per hour on his fastball during the high school season, and previously committed to Arizona before switching to USC and becoming their top recruit.
USC will hope Dunwoody doesn’t catch too many eyes at the combine, as they definitely need to reinforce their pitching staff following several losses to the transfer portal after the end of their season.
The Trojans made it all the way to the NCAA Super Regionals in the 2026 season, though their season ended after consecutive heartbreaking losses. They’ll hope to build on their fantastic season next year, as they seek a return to Omaha, Nebraska for their first College World Series appearance since 2001.
