USC catcher Isaac Cadena will enter the transfer portal for his senior season following a successful campaign in 2026.
Cadena is the second power-hitting catcher from USC to enter the transfer portal this offseason, as star player Augie Lopez also declared his intent to move colleges earlier in the offseason. USC baseball will also lose pitchers Diego Velasquez and Gavin Lauridsen to the transfer portal, and Mason Edwards is a candidate for the upcoming MLB draft.
In his junior season, Cadena hit eight homers and drove in 36 runs over the course of the season, coming alive in the final few months of the year. His first homer of the season came in April, and he went on to hit a total of three between April 11 and April 17. Cadena managed to raise his batting average from .264 to nearly .300 by the end of the season, and recorded nearly two-thirds of his RBIs on the year after April 11.
One of his best performances came at the beginning of May, when Cadena crushed two homers in a 12-2 rout over Rutgers—completing a three-game sweep.
Cadena reached base at an elite rate last season, posting a .420 OBP, and finished third on the team in runs behind Adrian Lopez and Kevin Takeuchi.
Over the course of his collegiate career, Cadena has transferred twice—spending his freshman year at Ohio State and his second season at TCU.
USC’s Isaac Cadena makes a catch to clinch the Trojans’ win in extra innings as the Oregon Ducks host the USC Trojans on May 14, 2026, in Eugene, Oregon.
The Trojans fell short against eventual College World Series runners-up North Carolina in the NCAA Super Regionals, ending what was a fantastic season. Cadena played in both games against North Carolina, but didn’t record a hit in either.
USC finished the year with a 48-18 record on the year, and finished with a 20-10 record in conference play, good for fourth in the conference. While they had a sub-.500 record on the road, they only lost one game at home throughout the entire season, and had a perfect record as the hosts throughout Big Ten play.
With so many key players leaving USC this season, their prospects of making it to the College World Series for the first time since 2001 are only shrinking.
