USC Trojans women’s basketball star Jazzy Davidson has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
The pick wasn’t necessarily a surprise, as Davidson recently reeled off her fourth consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor, bringing her season total to seven such nods.

She also was named First-Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Defensive Team and Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors, the school said in a news release.
“From opening night to the regular-season finale, Davidson delivered one of the most complete rookie campaigns in the country. She wrapped the regular season leading USC outright in every major statistical category, including points (17.9), rebounds (5.9), assists (4.3), steals (2.0) and blocks per game (2.1), a feat unmatched by any other Division I player this season,” USC wrote.
How Important is Jazzy Davidson to the Trojans?
Davidson’s ascent couldn’t come at a better time for the Trojans, who are without superstar Juju Watkins following her ACL tear last season.
It also comes amid a historic season for their crosstown rivals, the UCLA Bruins, who are 28-1 on the year and feature Big Ten Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Lauren Betts.
The 17-12 Trojans were trounced 73-50 by the Bruins at the Galen Center on Sunday.
