Over the weekend, the Big Ten women’s basketball regular season wrapped up. In addition to the upcoming conference tournament, that means that it is now time for the announcement of league honors.
On Monday, the Big Ten announced its league awards and all-conference teams. In a decision that was not at all surprising, USC’s Jazzy Davidson was named the league’s freshman of the year.
On the season, Davidson averaged 17.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. She was named the league’s freshman of the week seven times during the regular season, including all four weeks of February.
Entering the year, USC was put in a tough situation with the season-ending injury to superstar Juju Watkins. While it would be impossible to replace Watkins’s production, the emergence of Davidson played a key role in helping to alleviate her absence.
Next season, USC fans will get to watch Watkins and Davidson plays together. First, however, the Trojans must focus on this year’s Big Ten Tournament, which they begin play in Thursday with a matchup against Washington.
