Clemson men's basketball has started 7-1 in ACC play with wins in 10 of the Tigers' last 11 games dating back to early December.
Since the beginning lf the 2024-25 college basketball season, few teams nationally have been stronger in league play than Brad Brownell's Tigers. Not counting last year's the ACC Tournament, Clemson has won 25 of its last 28 conference games.
The Tigers' (17-4 overall) latest win came on Saturday at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta against Georgia Tech. Backed by big men Jake Wahlkin and Nick Davidson's 13 points apiece, and a hot second half from 3-point land, Clemson took down the Yellow Jackets, 77-63.
Clemson's last four wins in ACC play have all been by double digits, including a 69-59 victory over a team with fellow NCAA Tournament hopes in the Miami Hurricanes. The Tigers' only loss since conference action started was last Tuesday's 80-76 overtime loss to NC State.
With no game in mid-week action this week, the Tigers currently sit 29th in the latest NET rankings and KenPom ratings.
Here's a look at where Clemson lands in USA TODAY Sports' latest NCAA Tournament projections.
USA TODAY Sports' analysts Paul Myerberg, Erick Smith and Eddie Timanus currently project Clemson as a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament and playing a first-round game in Portland, Oregon.
If March Madness started today, the three experts see the Tigers facing either No. 11 seed New Mexico or the UCLA Bruins, the winner from the "First Four" played annually in Dayton, Ohio. Awaiting Clemson in a potential second-round matchup could be projected No. 3 seeds BYU, Michigan State, Purdue, or Houston. The Tigers fell to BYU on Dec. 9 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
ESPN's Joe Lunardi has the Tigers as a No. 6 seed in his latest March Madness projections, as well.
Clemson was a No. 5 seed in last year's NCAA Tournament and ended its season with a loss to McNeese State in a first-round upset. In the 2023-24 season, the Tigers were a No. 6 seed and reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 1980 and just the second time in program history.
Clemson is aiming for its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance, which would be a first since the Tigers made four straight tournaments from 2008-11. Clemson is ranked No. 19 in this week's USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the AP Top 25 poll.
The Duke Blue Devils are the projected top seed in Clemson's region. The Arizona Wildcats are the top overall seed in USA TODAY Sports' predictions, and the UConn Huskies and Michigan Wolverines also project as No. 1 seeds.
Clemson is one of eight ACC teams that USA TODAY Sports projects to reach the NCAA Tournament. The SEC and Big Ten lead the way with a projected 10 bids apiece.
Here's a breakdown of each ACC team and where they're projected to fall as of Jan. 29:
Clemson hosts the Pitt Panthers (9-12, 2-6) Saturday at Littlejohn Coliseum. Tipoff for Clemson-Pittsburgh is Noon ET. The game will be televised on ACC Network.
All start times Eastern.
