Ursuline senior Nina Choe wrapped up her Section 1 career in grand fashion on May 27.
Choe won her third straight Section 1 championship by 14 strokes, making six birdies, shooting 3-under 70 at Whipporwill Club in Armonk. Choe was 1-under leading by two shots after last week's opening round at The Links at Union Vale in Lagrangeville.
"It means a lot to win three Section 1 titles," Choe said. "It's encouraging to see all of the practices and hard work pay off."
Wednesday's next best round was from Scarsdale's Arwen Dong, who was 5-over 78.
Choe, who will play collegiately next year for UC-Davis, said she returned from playing in a tournament in Florida on Tuesday and that her competition level was strong.
"I felt like all the reps and high competition kept me in it," Choe said. "I was also able to figure out some mishaps that happened in that tournament and use it to improve and perform better at sectionals."
Up next on Choe's scholastic calendar is the NYSPHSAA tournament June 7-8 at Wild Wood Country Club in Rush. Choe won the state championship in 2025, also at Wild Wood, by seven strokes.
The top nine golfers at the Section 1 Championships qualify for states, so joining Choe from Section will be Sybille Mayer (Albertus Magnus), Dong (Scarsdale), Liya Chu (Scarsdale), Grace Rotatori (Ursuline), Ella Shin (Nanuet), Caelyn Deserre (Arlington), Lylah Bloch (Clarkstown) and Zoe Winston (Scarsdale).
"Having states as the same site as last year gives me a little confidence because I know the course and what I will be walking into," Choe said. "However, I know anything can happen, so staying focused and patient will be very important."
