Corning's Delaney Abel ties for third at NYSPHSAA girls golf tourney

Corning-Painted Post sophomore Delaney Abel tied for third place to lead Section 4 competitors in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association girls and boys golf championships that were held Sunday, June 7 and Monday, June 8.

Abel followed her opening-round 76 with a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to finish with a 36-hole score of 2-over 146 at Wild Wood Country Club in Rush. She shared third place with Nina Choe of The Ursuline School.

Hayden Knapp of South Glens Falls was medalist with a 2-under 142. Rachel O'Rourke of Rome Free Academy took second at 144.

Leading the way for Section 4 boys at Mill Creek Golf Club in Churchville was Norwich's Brevin Bennett, who tied for 14th at 5-over 147. He had rounds of even-par 71 and 76.

Ryan Liu of Manhasset won in a playoff over Charles Nevin of Friends Academy after each finished at 6-under 136.
